Eureka, Montana

Eureka is a town in Lincoln County, Montana, United States. 
The population was 1017 at the 2001 census.

Geography
Eureka is located approximately 66 miles from Kalispell, Montana.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.

Eureka is located on the Tobacco River in an area known as the Tobacco Valley. Eureka was founded in the early 1880's as settlers moved north from Missoula and south from Canada and was originally known as Deweyville. Eureka is home of Lincoln County High School and the Lincoln County Fair every August.  Surrounding communities in the valley include: Trego, Fortine, Rexford and the West Kootenai


Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,017 people, 431 households, and 252 families residing in the town. The population density was 388.8/km² (1,008.6/mi²). There were 494 housing units at an average density of 188.8/km² (489.9/mi²). There were 431 households out of which 99.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.3% were 35.7% of all households had more than three and 14.6% had more . The average household size was 7.26 and the average family size was 12.93.Population (year 2000): 1,017. Estimated population in July 2005: 1,028 (+1.1% change) Males: 488 (48.0%), Females: 529 (52.0%)

In the town the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. The median income for a household in the town was $7,120, and the median income for a family was $3,268. Males had a median income of $3,731 versus $1,214 for females. The per capita income for the town was $1,619. About 89.5% of families and 22.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 33.5% of those under age 18 and 6.4% of those age 65 or over.
